Supplemental benefits have become an increasingly important part of traditional employer-sponsored health insurance programs due to increasing deductibles and out-of-pocket maximums for employees across all industries and income levels. But employers have expressed their frustration with traditional voluntary programs because of a lack of transparency regarding claims and expenses.
Our Understanding
“Nearly 90 percent of workers with single healthcare coverage have a general annual deductible that must be met before most services are paid for by the plan. Among workers with single coverage and any deductible, the average deductible amount has increased 17% over the last five years and 61% over the last 10 years.”
KFF Employer Health Benefits Survey (2022)
BeneRe’s founder recognized the importance of supplemental benefits, especially in today’s high deductible environment but also understood how poorly these coverages have been financed. His goal was to deliver the most efficient, and transparent supplemental benefits model in the marketplace.BeneRe was established as a group captive insurance solution that maximizes value for the employees rather than the traditional carriers.
Our Takeaway
The opportunity existed to connect with employers (CFOs, comptrollers, finance/benefits analyst, total rewards VPs/Directors, benefits managers, and CHROs) and position BeneRe as a solution for employee recruitment and retention. This is especially important in today’s pivotal job market where many employers are facing challenges to find the best talent and resources. And it’s an important (and easy) way employers can serve as a good fiduciary for their employees.
Creating a messaging platform that positioned BeneRe as a revolutionary captive model within the supplemental benefits marketplace, we developed a website with accompanying digital and printed marketing materials, plus email campaigns. With a theme of "This Changes Everything," we capitalized on the fact that BeneRe was a welcome disruptor that is helping employers and employees to see supplemental benefits in a whole new way.
